PSITTACIFORMES: Psittacidae
Platycercus venustus
I had been in and around Darwin for several days and happened to chat to a local birder out at Lee Point.
I mentioned that one of the birds I was hoping to find and photograph was a Northern Rosella.
He burst out laughing and wished me luck saying he hadn't seen one around Darwin for years.
On our last day in the Northern Territory Viktor and I headed a couple of hundred kilometres south of Darwin to Pine Creek and nearby areas.
The late afternoon found us staking out a waterhole on a mainly dry creek on the road to Edith Falls and fortunately along with, double-barred finches, long-tailed finches, peaceful doves and magpie larks, down for a drink came a pair of northern rosellas.
